I truly have so much to be thankful for this year. I have been blessed with a loving family. I have wonderful friends and a wonderful community. God has been so gracious and so kind to me as I transition in to a new season of life. He has shown me so much mercy and dished out so much grace. He has given me the freedom to be obedient to Him and given me more freedom in my life in general.

As I have tried to do this whole 365 Days Grateful thing, I have come to realize that being grateful is a state of mind. It’s a constant state of thanks. I’m not going to lie, being in a constant state of thanks isn’t easy. I’ve found it’s extremely difficult, not because I’m an ungrateful person but because some days are harder than others. Some days just don’t go the way you want. Some days it’s difficult to even be kind to people. Those days it isn’t easy to be grateful for things. But then there are those days that are absolute bliss. All the things are falling in to place and all the things are going as they should and it’s easy to be grateful for something. But I’ve learned that even on the difficult days there is something to be grateful for. Even if you’re grateful for the simple fact that you got to live life that day. Some days I’m just grateful I got to live a new day, even if it was an awful day I’ve found I was simply grateful to be alive.

On days like today, a day wholly dedicated to being thankful I’m reminded that I always have something to be grateful for. I have a loving family, a wonderful group of friends and a Saviour and Father that have been so kind to me. Today on this wonderful day of thanks I am thankful for life, for love, for the difficult days and the good days, for laughter, for family, for friends, for community and countless other things. I hope today and every other day you too can always find something to be grateful for. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

also, now the whole world can listen to Christmas music all the time!!

Happy Thanksgiving

This past month has been focused on thanks. Every day as I wrote on here and thought about what I was thankful for, made me realize that I’m simply thankful for my life. I have been blessed so tremendously with family and friends who love me, and support me. I have been blessed with salvation and all that entails. I am so thankful for the fact that I wake up and get to live life and I get to do so with people who care about me. I am thankful for the fact that there are so many things I have to be thankful for. From family and friends, to music and movies, I have more to be thankful for than I could even possibly list in 28 days. I just know that this life I lead is a blessing far greater than I could ever ask for. I am glad that God has blessed me with all I have been blessed with, and that he has given me opportunities I couldn’t have dreamed of and that he has blessed me with all he has blessed me with. In the past 28 days I have learned that being thankful doesn’t mean you have to be thankful for a certain situation, but rather finding something to be thankful for in every situation.  For the past 28 days I have found that I always have something to be thankful for, whether it’s super deep and sentimental or silly. Being thankful in every situation is what I’ve learned is key to being thankful, because lets be honest, some times it’s hard to be thankful for a situation, and some times it’s difficult to be thankful in certain seasons, but being thankful in a situation or a season teaches and shows us how much we truly have to be thankful for.

There’s No Place Like Home

I am home for Thanksgiving!! I love being home. I come home more often than I did last year, and I am so glad for it!! I love coming home because I get to eat real food and I get to actually sleep!! I like being home because it reminds me of good times and joy, especially during Thanksgiving and Christmas. I come home and I spend time with my family, and I think about how much home has changed over time. I’m 21 years old and I miss home every once in a while, but then I realize that home truly is where the heart is. I’ve made a home for myself in Tucson, but home is always going to be with my family. I hope when I have a family that my kids cherish times with their family as I do mine. I hope I can raise my kids to appreciate the people around them and the home they make for themselves. I am also thankful that my parents house will always feel like home. I am thankful that my family and my friends will always feel like home. I am so blessed by the people in my life who make home feel like home. The people and the memories that make a house a home.

Musicals and Crisp Nights

Again, short and simple, I’m thankful for musicals and crisp nights. I have listened to a number of musicals in the past two days and I have loved every single second of it! I could listen to musicals for so long it’s actually kind of scary how many times I have listened to certain Broadway recordings, and how many I have listened to. I just love the fact that someone was so inspired by a story, a movie, or life that they just wrote a whole book of music! It’s great! I also just love a nice crisp night when I can sleep with my window cracked open and snuggle under my sheets for a comfy nights sleep.

Equally Nerdy Friends

Today, short and sweet,  I am thankful for friends who will entertain me in my love for all things unusual. Tonight I watched the 50th anniversary episode of Doctor Who for the third time, but this time in theaters, with a few great friends. I am glad to have all the friends I have, but I am especially glad I have friends who just let me love the things I love, because I love a lot of things. I am thankful that I have friends who will just let me enjoy the things I enjoy without making me feel like a total weirdo, because honestly, all of my friends are a bit weird. I am truly blessed by the friends who will take pictures of me with the TARDIS, and who will let me listen to musicals all day long.

So for seven years, during middle and high school, I was in band, and although I was getting tired of it my senior year I look back and remember how much I actually loved it!! I loved the friends I made and the lessons I learned, but I appreciate most the way I learned to be passionate about things in life. Band was when I first became passionate about something in life, which is music. Now I’m not a super fantastic musician by any means, but in band I learned how to be passionate about things in life. I was passionate about band. All of my friends were in band. My whole social life revolved around band. I was pretty much consumed by it, for lack of a better word, but band gave me a love for music I don’t think I would have if it weren’t for it. I love music so much!! I can sit in a room of complete silence and be fine, but I enjoy having music to listen to. I enjoy having music to listen to when I’m walking on campus, because the music I listen to, in that moment, is the soundtrack of my life. Which is really what I think when I choose music to listen to while on campus, which I realize is such a nerdy and strange thing to do, but I do! I think if it weren’t for band I wouldn’t have the love for music that I have. I grew up listening to a lot of different types of music, but I didn’t really appreciate the raw form of music and I didn’t really grow up with an appreciation of music in a genuine form. In band I definitely grew to love musicals and acoustics of any song! In band I just learned how to be passionate about things because I learned how to be passionate about music. As I grow up I realize how extremely nerdy I am, and that it’s okay. I love musicals and Broadway so much I just looked up Broadway touring shows, and Broadway shows I could watch. I am almost tempted to ask my for a plane ticket to New York to see Les Mis on Broadway next year when it goes back to Broadway, or for tickets to see Once in Tempe, or Jersey Boys in Tucson. From band I learned how to be passionate about the books I read, and the movies/television I watch. I learned to appreciate raw forms of certain things in life; the simple things. I have grown such a love and appreciation for the things in my life I wouldn’t let myself be passionate about, or was embarrassed to be passionate about, because really if you like, or love something, why should other people be allowed to change your mind!! They shouldn’t! Some people love books more than movies, or movies more than books. Others love texting more than phone calls. Others love board games more than video games. Others like the word nerd, while others still find themselves a bit too cool for the word, but really being a nerd just means you love and are passionate about the things you like. Honestly, I’m just full on nerd!! I love the things I love, and yeah there was a time when I would let people dictate what I wasn’t allowed to like and not like, but I’ve grown to learn that not everybody is going to love band, or the movies I like. People aren’t always going to enjoy the music I listen to, but you know what, I’m fine with that. I am a nerd about a lot of things in my life and I am perfectly fine with that. I rather enjoy it actually!! I am thankful for band. Even though it had its not so great times, I learned a lot of things about myself, and accepted a lot of quirks about myself because of band. Honestly, if I did high school all over again for some strange reason, I would do band again and just fall in love all over again with the things in life I love.

Christmas Music

I LOVE CHRISTMAS!!! Christmas is my favourite holiday and I start listening to Christmas music after Halloween, far before it is socially acceptable to start listening to it! I just love Christmas so much!! I love everything about Christmas!! I love the people, the food the weather, the everything!!

My roommate and I were actually talking about Christmas, and I think the reason I love Christmas so much is because it’s the one holiday where it is guaranteed I will be surrounded by my family!! Thanksgiving is always a wonderful family time, but there’s something different about Christmas where family comes out of the woodwork! I am never not with family during the Christmas season, and it always seems to grow. My family doesn’t have any crazy traditions or anything we do that is super spectacular, but just being with my family means so much to me!! Christmas also means Christmas parties, Christmas music, Christmas movies, Christmas candies, and tacky sweaters!! I just think Christmas is the best season around, and I cannot wait for Christmas this time around!!

So today I am thankful for Christmas music and all the joy and swell memories it brings with it!!
